    Locations at which users of electronic equipment (PCs, tablets, smart phones) with Wi-Fi receivers can wirelessly connect to the Internet. This service is often provided as a convenience to customers at restaurants, hotels, bookstores and coffee shops as well as libraries; and the wireless connection can be either secure (which encrypts transmissions based on a password provided by the host) or unsecured. The Wi-Fi service may be provided at no cost or could involve a registration fee. Also included are libraries and other similar organizations that offer mobile hotspot devices that can be checked out and used to access the Internet from any location. The mobile Wi-Fi unit may provide Internet access for multiple devices. NOTE: adds references to mobile Wi-Fi.

    Library ServicesInstruction is provided for those who want to learn or perfect their skills in operating, programming, and/or utilizing computers. Guilderland Public Library's Homebound Book Loan program serves the residents of Guilderland, NY. This program allows residents to have books delivered and picked up by library staff volunteers on a monthly basis, to/from their place of residence. A library card must be issued to the responsible party. Library book requests are made by phone and a delivery and/or pick-up date is scheduled. Library materials available to patrons with visual and/or auditory disabilities. These materials, which can be borrowed, include books on CD or cassette tape, closed captioned VHS tapes and closed captioned DVDs. In addition, the library has a magnifier for patrons to use on books and/or newspapers with small print. Book Discussion Groups on various topics meet at the library.
